Purcell were commissioned by The Dorchester Collection to design the standalone, eco-luxury Coworth Park Spa for the well-being, relaxation and enjoyment of the Coworth Park Hotel’s guests.
The Dorchester’s Coworth Park Hotel
The spa sits on a sensitive green belt within the Dorchester’s Coworth Park Hotel, a country house hotel and estate. Due to the site’s location, there were a number of planning conditions to work with; however, having a proven track record of delivering eco-luxury buildings, our team provided an efficient and sustainable solution.
An Eco-Luxury Spa
Our design of the two-storey spa building features extensive facilities including a heated indoor swimming pool, restaurant, gym, sun terrace and eight treatment rooms.
The spa is oriented to the sun’s path to maximise the natural light it receives and its exterior windows incorporate efficient solar glazing.
Carbon Negative Materials
Our design minimises the building’s footprint within the green belt and maximises the natural elements surrounding the site. The building is the first luxury spa to be built out of carbon-negative lime hemp and features a timber glulam monocoque structure which supports the living roof (where the foliage growing upon it is used for treatments).
The building incorporates sustainable measures including a biomass boiler, a groundwater heat transfer system, which has resulted in the spa being 40% below its target emission rate.
Enabling an abundant amount of natural light to permeate the building, using natural building materials and incorporating sustainable measures into the design has enabled Purcell to develop an eco-luxury spa to ensure the well-being and luxury experience of the Coworth Park Hotel’s visitors.
