Jane Kennedy awarded Canterbury Cross
Jane was awarded the Canterbury Cross for services to the Church of England at in a ceremony at Lambeth Palace.
The only nominee awarded a cross from an architectural background, Jane was recognised for her outstanding conservation work at Ely Cathedral, Newcastle Cathedral and Christ Church, Oxford. As Surveyor to the Fabric for Ely Cathedral from 1994 to 2017, Jane oversaw a period of major restoration within the Cathedral and its precincts.
The Archbishop of Canterbury grants specific awards each year in the form of the Lambeth Degrees along with a suite of non-academic awards, including the Canterbury Cross. In 2017, over 35 people received awards from the Lambeth Degrees. Recipients included religious, political and community leaders, musicians and others, from Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
